It is White’s turn. He is 2 pieces behind and knows that Black has only 1 piece left to play. What would be his best move?

Correct answer:

  • i1-c5

Black must recycle pieces. He can either play b3;x (f2;x), or d2;x, or i3-d2;x. Whatever his choice will be, White will always capture 3 pieces more than Black and go one piece ahead.

  • If b3;x, then i3-e3;xe2,e7,e8
  • If d2;xd6, then i3-d2;xe2,e7,e8;xd2
  • i3-d2;xd2, then xe2,e7,e8;d2;xh3
